If you are preparing for UPSC, SSC or any other competitive exam in Delhi, the chances are, you have heard of Mukherjee Nagar. With the coaching institutes, libraries and tiffin shops all a few minutes walk apart, your choice of stay matters a lot. A good PG saves you time walking from your accommodation to your exam, and a bad one is a waste of precious sleep and money.
I have reviewed three listings just under or around the ₹10,000 mark and here’s what they offer in terms of value, amenities, and size.
1. Luxurious Arya PG: Best Value for Money
Starting rent: ₹4999 per bed | Deposit: ₹4999 | Rating: 5.0/5
This one is the cheapest of the three and doesn’t miss on any of the basics. Rent includes food (veg) and single, double and triple sharing rooms, with AC rooms as an option (which will probably set you back a bit more). Parking and power backup are both provided, which is unusual for this price range.
The PG is partner verified, and the tagline says “Best Food Best Safe.” I know, this is marketing copy, so you’ll have to check for yourself, but the rating is five out of five, which means everyone living here is happy.
It’s also big, with 342 beds in total. Larger PGs mean a bigger variety of rooms and faster availability. On the downside, it’s less personal, and it can get busy at mealtimes, but that’s not unusual in Delhi. It’s been only running up since 2024, so it’s new.
Note: It accepts both boys and girls. If you’re looking for boys only, check out the other two listings.
Good for: Students on a tight budget who want to cover the essentials and have good food to boot.
2. Seth Boys Hostel: Student-Focused and Established
Starting rent: ₹7200 per bed | Deposit: ₹3500 | Rating: 3.2/5 (2 reviews)
Seth Boys Hostel is boys only and lists students as their preferred tenants. It’s been running since 2017, so it has a bit more history than the other two PGs. Both single and double sharing options are available.
A few other things to note:
Food is available in both veg and non-veg, which most PGs don’t cater to
Maintenance is listed as ₹0
Electricity is charged at ₹8, which I assume is per unit. Confirm this with your agent before moving in, because AC in the summer can really blow out your bill
Notice period is one month
AC rooms and power backup are available, although parking is not listed
An odd thing about this listing is that the headline price says ₹7200 onwards, but in their description, they mention Rs 5,500 per month. This can be either a mistake or a specific price to their agents, so ask directly with whoever you’re booking through which one applies to you
With only 22 beds and two reviews, this 3.2/5 rating might be a bit of a stretch, so don’t take it too seriously. Instead, visit the PG and talk to someone already living there.
Good for: Boys who want the option of non-veg meals, and a quieter, smaller PG.
3. Vidhya Niwas Boys Hostel: Premium and Brand New
Starting rent: ₹10000 per bed | Deposit: ₹10000
Strictly speaking, this PG falls just under the ₹10,000 mark, so it’s right at the top of your budget. It’s also in Vijay Nagar, which is close to the North Campus area, rather than in Mukherjee Nagar itself. If you can accept this, it’s definitely worth a look.
What you get for the extra money: the listing is marked Brand New and Partner Verified, and they provide both single, double and triple rooms with food included (veg). Both AC rooms and power backup are available. The photos show some clean, airy rooms with proper beds and study tables.
It has 114 beds in total, and has been operating since 2013, so the management team has a decade of experience, despite the listing being marked new. The deposit is ₹10,000 and the notice period is one month, and parking is not listed.
The listing refers to it as a “Luxury PG with Good Service.” Again, this comes from the owner, so make sure to verify it.
Good for: Students who want a luxury room with comfort in mind, and are willing to pay the price.
Final Word
If you want the best value for your money, go for Luxurious Arya PG. If you want boys only and the option to have non-veg, talk to Seth Boys Hostel, and if you want the comfort of a clean room and are willing to stretch your budget to ₹10,000, Vidhya Niwas is definitely the one to go for.
